Authors Guidlines & instructions

Author Guidelines and Submission Instructions

1. Submission Overview and Eligibility
The International Journal of Health and Rehabilitation (IJHR_ORG) invites submissions of original scholarly works that align with its multidisciplinary scope in health, rehabilitation, and allied sciences. We consider the following manuscript types:

  • Original Research Article

  • Review Article (Systematic, Scoping, or Narrative)

  • Case Report / Case Series

  • Short Communication

  • Letter to the Editor
We only accept original manuscripts that are not currently under consideration by another journal and have not been previously published in any form (except as a preprint in a community-recognized repository). Submissions must adhere to the highest standards of research and publication ethics.

2. Submission Process
All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the journal's online submission and peer-review system at https://insightsjhr.org.

  • The corresponding author is responsible for registering an account, logging in, and completing the five-step submission process.

  • To comply with our double-blind peer-review policy, the main manuscript file must be anonymized. All author names, affiliations, acknowledgments, and any identifying references to prior work must be removed from this file. Author information must be provided separately in the online submission system's metadata fields.

  • Supplementary files (e.g., datasets, ethical approval letters, signed copyright forms, publication fee waiver requests) should be uploaded in the designated sections.

3. Language and General Formatting Requirements

  • Language: Manuscripts must be written in clear, academic English. Authors may choose either British or American spelling conventions but must apply them consistently throughout the document.

  • File Format: Submit the main manuscript as a Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) file.

  • Layout: Use Times New Roman font, size 12. Text should be justified with single line spacing. Use 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides.

  • Embedded Elements: All tables, figures, and their legends must be placed within the main body of the text at the appropriate points. Do not group them at the end of the document.

4. Manuscript Categories and Specific Structural Requirements

5. Title, Keywords, and Nomenclature

  • Title: Must be concise, informative, and accurately reflect the study's content. It should indicate the design, key variables, population, and context. Avoid abbreviations and proprietary names.

  • Keywords: Provide 5-10 keywords to aid indexing. Keywords should preferably be selected from the U.S. National Library of Medicine's Medical Subject Headings (MeSH).

  • Abbreviations: Define non-standard abbreviations at first mention in the text, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses. Standard units and widely recognized abbreviations (e.g., DNA, MRI) need no definition.

  • Units and Drug Names: Use the International System of Units (SI). Use generic drug names; brand names may be included in parentheses upon first mention if relevant.

6. Tables and Figures

  • Number all tables and figures consecutively in the order of their first citation in the text.

  • Each must have a concise, descriptive title and a legend that allows it to be understood independent of the main text.

  • Figures (graphs, charts, images) must be of high resolution (minimum 300 DPI) and submitted in an editable vector format (e.g., .eps, .svg) or high-quality .tiff/.png. Authors are responsible for obtaining and providing written permission to reproduce any copyrighted material.

7. References

  • Adhere strictly to the Vancouver reference style (numbered citation-sequence).

  • List references numerically in the order they appear in the text.

  • For journal articles, list all authors if six or fewer; for seven or more, list the first six followed by et al.

  • Use standard journal abbreviations as listed in Index Medicus/PubMed/NLM Catalog.

8. Ethical and Declaration Requirements

  • Ethical Approval: For studies involving human or animal subjects, a statement of ethical approval (with committee name and approval number) must be included in the Methods section.

  • Informed Consent: A statement confirming informed consent for participation and, where applicable, for publication of identifiable information, is required.

  • Competing Interests: All authors must disclose any financial or personal conflicts of interest in a dedicated section.

  • Funding: All sources of financial support must be declared in a Funding Statement.

  • Data Availability: A Data Availability Statement is required, indicating where supporting data can be accessed or explaining any restrictions.

  • AI Assistance: Any use of AI-assisted technologies must be declared transparently (see AI Policy).

9. Article Processing and Publication Fees
IJHR_ORG is an open-access journal. To support the costs of professional copyediting, XML production, online hosting, and long-term preservation, an Article Publication Fee is applied only upon formal acceptance of the manuscript.

  • National Authors (Pakistan): PKR 30,000.

  • International Authors: USD 150.
No fees are required for submission, peer review, or if the manuscript is rejected. Requests for fee waivers due to genuine financial hardship are considered on a case-by-case basis; applicants should contact the editorial office at the time of submission.

10. Post-Acceptance
Accepted manuscripts are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. Copyright is retained by the authors. The journal ensures permanent archiving via the PKP Preservation Network (PKP-PN).

Open Access, Fees, and Funding Disclosure Policy

1. Open Access and Subscription Model
The International Journal of Health and Rehabilitation (IJHR_ORG) is a full and immediate open-access journal. In alignment with our core mission to remove barriers to knowledge, the journal does not charge any subscription or access fees. All peer-reviewed research articles, reviews, and other published content are freely available to read, download, copy, and distribute from the moment of publication, ensuring that researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and the public worldwide have unrestricted access to the latest findings in health and rehabilitation sciences.

2. Article Publication Fee Structure
To sustain the operations required for high-quality open-access publishing—including rigorous peer-review management, professional copyediting, digital production, online hosting, and long-term digital preservation via the PKP-PN—IJHR_ORG applies an Article Publication Fee (APF). This fee is incurred only after a manuscript has been formally accepted for publication.

  • National Authors (Based in Pakistan): PKR 30,000.

  • International Authors: USD 150.
Important Notes: No fees are required for submission, editorial assessment, or the peer-review process. If a manuscript is rejected at any stage, no payment is requested.

3. Waiver and Discount Policy
IJHR_ORG is committed to equity in publishing and recognizes that financial constraints should not prevent the dissemination of valuable research.

  • Eligibility: Partial or full waivers of the APF are available to corresponding authors who can demonstrate genuine financial hardship. Priority is given to researchers from low- and lower-middle-income countries (as defined by the World Bank) and to early-career researchers without institutional funding.

  • Application Process: Authors must request a waiver at the time of manuscript submission, prior to acceptance. The request should be sent to orgjournaljhr@gmail.com and must include:

    • A concise justification for the waiver request.

    • A statement of need, which may include confirmation of institutional affiliation in a qualifying region or a declaration of lack of funding.

  • Evaluation: Waiver requests are reviewed confidentially by the editorial management on a case-by-case basis. The scientific merit of the manuscript and the author's circumstances are both considered. Granting a waiver does not influence the editorial decision on the manuscript's acceptability.

4. Mandatory Source of Funding Disclosure
Transparency regarding financial support is a critical component of research integrity.

  • Requirement: All authors must disclose all sources of funding that supported the work reported in their manuscript. This includes grants, fellowships, donations, and in-kind support from governmental, commercial, or non-profit entities.

  • Disclosure Statement: A Funding Statement must be included in the manuscript, placed in a dedicated section before the reference list. The statement must list all funding sources, including the full name of the funding agency and the grant number(s), if applicable.

  • Purpose:

    • Transparency: Allows readers, reviewers, and editors to assess potential influences on the study design, conduct, analysis, or reporting.

    • Acknowledgment: Ensures proper credit is given to the organizations that enabled the research.

    • Integrity: Is a fundamental requirement of ethical publishing, as per ICMJE and COPE guidelines.

  • Role of the Funder: Authors are encouraged to briefly describe the role of the funder(s) in the research process (e.g., "The funder had no role in study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, or writing of the report").

5. Conclusion on Financial Policies
IJHR_ORG's financial policies are designed to balance the principles of equitable open access with the practical requirements of sustainable scholarly publishing. Our waiver system ensures that ability to pay is not a barrier to publication, while our strict funding disclosure policy upholds the transparency necessary for maintaining trust in the published scientific record.
